Are mobile survey apps worth the space?

Mobile survey apps trade pay per task for immediacy. A 20-second poll paying eight cents is a bad hourly rate on paper, but it happens in a supermarket queue where the alternative earning is zero.
The three app categories
Micro-poll apps: very short questions, five to twenty cents, several per day. Effective rate looks high per minute but daily volume caps earnings at a few dollars.
Location-based apps: they detect that you visited a shop and ask about it. Best pay of the three, but they require continuous location access.
Receipt scanners: modest points per receipt, and effectively payment for your purchase data rather than your opinion.
Realistic earnings
A committed user of two or three apps earns roughly $5 to $20 a month. That is a top-up, not a stream. Anyone reporting hundreds a month from apps alone is including referral income.

Continuous location tracking is a meaningful privacy trade and a real battery cost. Decide deliberately whether the few dollars a month are worth it; there is no wrong answer, only an uninformed one.
Notification fatigue is the other cost. Apps that ping constantly get uninstalled within a fortnight, taking the accrued unredeemed balance with them.
A reasonable setup
Two apps maximum, notifications limited to the higher-paying one, location granted only while using the app unless the app is specifically a visit-detection product, and a monthly check on whether you actually crossed a redemption threshold.
