What survey income realistically looks like after a year

The most useful thing anyone can tell you about survey income is where the ceiling is, because almost every disappointment comes from expecting a stream and receiving a top-up.
Three participation levels
Casual, around two hours a week: $8 to $25 a month once profiles mature. Best framed as a coffee or streaming subscription paid for by opinions.
Regular, five to seven hours a week: $35 to $90 a month across three to five panels, with occasional larger months when a product test or group lands.
Heavy, fifteen-plus hours a week: $120 to $300 a month, and this is where most people burn out, because the marginal hour is the worst-paid hour.
The first three months are not representative
New profiles receive fewer and worse invitations. Expect month one to look bleak, month two to roughly double, and month three to settle near your real rate. Judging the hobby on week two is the most common mistake.

Qualitative work. One focus group can exceed a month of surveys, and the qualifying factor is usually something structural about you — profession, purchase authority, a health condition — not effort.
Specialist panels for your profession. If you work in IT, healthcare, finance, or run a business, the B2B tier pays several times the consumer rate for the same hour.
What does not move it
Joining more panels beyond about five, taking every low-paying invitation, or chasing referral schemes. Each adds hours without improving the rate, which is the only number that matters.
