Prolific is not a survey site in the consumer-panel sense. It is a marketplace connecting academic and commercial researchers with prescreened participants, and it enforces a minimum hourly rate on every study posted. That single rule makes it the highest-paying option available to ordinary participants.
In our tracking, 22 completed studies averaged $2.90 for just under 13 minutes each — an effective $13.40 an hour. The catch is volume: those 22 studies took five weeks to accumulate.

Why the pay is different
Researchers must set a rate at or above the platform minimum, and Prolific labels studies as 'good' or 'great' pay based on the rate. Underpaid studies are rejected before they reach participants.
Because you are matched to studies using the prescreening answers you gave at signup, you almost never start something you cannot finish. That eliminates the screen-out tax that drags every consumer panel's real hourly rate down by 25 – 40%.
The volume problem
Study supply is genuinely unpredictable. Weekday mornings in UK and US time zones are the busiest windows; weekends are thin. High-paying studies disappear within a few minutes of being posted.
Fill in every prescreening question you are offered — there are hundreds, and each one you answer makes you eligible for more studies. This is the single highest-return action on the platform and most people skip it.
Approval rate and rejections
Every study you submit is reviewed. Failed attention checks, obviously rushed answers or incomplete free-text responses can lead to a rejection, and your approval rate is visible to researchers.
Keep the rate above 95% and you will see the full study pool. Drop below 90% and eligibility narrows sharply. Read the instructions and answer free-text questions in full sentences — that is essentially the whole strategy.
Getting paid
Payments move to your Prolific balance once the researcher approves, which is usually within a few days and is auto-approved after 21 days. Cash-out is to PayPal at a £5 minimum and is usually near-instant.
There is no gift-card maze and no points currency — balances are shown in real money, which is refreshing after the SB and points systems elsewhere.

Prolific pays two to four times what a consumer panel pays for the same time, and it wastes almost none of your time on qualifiers. It is the best platform in this category by a clear margin.
